What is the INCLUDE Strategy?

INCLUDE Strategy  
A strategy for accommodating students with special needs in the general 
education classroom.  


Identify environmental, curricular, and instructional classroom demands 
Note students learning strengths and needs  
Check for potential areas of student success 
Look for potential problem areas  
Use information gathered to brainstorm instructional adaptations 
Decide which adaptations to implement 
Evaluate student progress   


Identify classroom demands 
 Classroom organization 
 Classroom grouping 
 Instructional methods  
 Instructional materials 


Note student learning strength and weaknesses 
 Academics 
 Social emotional development 
 Physical development 


Check potential areas of student success 
 Check Current levels of performance on the IEP 


Look for Potential problem areas 
 Look for mismatches throughout the academic day 


Use information to brainstorm adaptations  
 Bypass strategies 
 Classroom teaching and organization 
 Intensive instruction on basic skills and learned strategies 
   
Decide which accommodation to implement 
 Select age appropriate adaptations 
 Select the easiest accommodations first 
 Select adaptations you agree with 
 Select adaptations with demonstrated effectiveness
